As the Boomer generation continues to age, and as other generations begin to explore what it will be like to retire safely without compromising activity, the medical alert device industry has exploded. Having many options is always a good thing, which makes Black and Decker Health’s new goVia line even more interesting for aging adults.

Here’s what you need to know about goVia, and about the company that is supporting the service.

What Is goVia?

goVia offers multiple options for personal medical alert systems. As a part of Black and Decker Health, goVia gives active adults the extra layer of protection they desire in case of an emergency or fall.

What are the goVia options?

goVia features a few options for users to choose from when looking at devices.

As with many medical alert device companies, goVia gives consumers multiple options so they can choose a device or system that works best for their lifestyle and preferences. Here are the current offerings that goVia features:

  • goVia MINI:
The smallest and most discreet of the goVia devices, the MINI can be easily clipped to a beltloop or purse. It also comes with a lanyard if the user prefers to wear the device that way. The device has one button to push in case of emergency, making it very easy to use. Further, the MINI has nationwide cellular coverage through  Verizon 4G LTE. The battery lasts for up to 5 days before it needs to be charged again.
  • goVia MOVE:
The goVia MOVE features a home base system as well as an optional emergency pendant you can wear if you are going to be within 300 feet of the base device, such as outside gardening or downstairs in your home. Again, a single push of the emergency button contacts the user with an operator that can facilitate emergency response as necessary. The battery lasts for one day before needing to be charged again.
  • goVia HOME:
Available in versions that support landline (classic) or cellular (wireless) usage, the HOME system operates as a base system in the home. Users can wear pendants and push the emergency button for help up to 1,300 feet away. There is a backup battery in both systems in case of a power outage that lasts up to 34 hours.

All goVia products can be easily ordered through Amazon. Further, all goVia products have the option to include fall detention technology and services for an additional fee.

Monitoring Services

In order to provide users with experienced and trained operators who can respond when users push their emergency button, Black and Decker paired with Medical Guardian. Users will pay a monthly subscription fee that will give them access to Medical Guardian operators any time they push their emergency button. Of course, Medical Guardian brings experience and knowledge as they have been a part of the medical alert device and response industry for years.

In a press release, Medical Guardian Chief Executive Officer Geoff Gross addresses the new partnership with optimism. “This collaboration with BLACK+DECKER marks a milestone moment in Medical Guardian’s history, and we are extremely honored to help bring goVia to seniors across the country,” says Gross. “We’ve long admired the company for its 100+ years of manufacturing innovations that have transformed the American household. The company’s reputation for delivering practical solutions to better people’s lives aligns perfectly with our mission to empower people to live a life without limits. We are excited to see what the future holds as we work in tandem to deliver solutions that help active older Americans maintain their lifestyle and age in place.”

Is goVia right for You?

As with all medical alert devices and systems, users must decide which features are most important to them before choosing. While it can seem risky to go with a relatively new product from a company that doesn’t have the medical alert experience, the team at Black and Decker has done its part to pair up with Medical Guardian to ensure a proper response from operators and product support from them.

The goVia is also convenient to order right through your Amazon account and is easy to set up. New users simply have to call a designated phone number to activate the system and give information for the monthly subscription to Medical Guardian.

goVia might be right for you if you are seeking a device that is:

  • Easy to use
  • Water-resistant
  • Easy to activate
  • Versatile
  • Backed by experienced call center operators from Medical Guardian’s monitoring partners
  • Ready with technology to detect potential falls and to follow up appropriately
